Greater Noida: Work on textile park near Jewar international airport site to begin soon

GREATER NOIDA: The development of the textile park near the upcoming Jewar international airport in Sector 29 of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area is to begin later this year, officials said. The cluster, which is expected to be ready in three years, is likely to bring Rs 5,000 cr investment and provide jobs to five lakh.

While YEIDA has already allotted 200 acres in the sector to Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC), the latter has demanded the designated 30% land subsidy prior to setting up of units. But this demand has been turned down by UP chief secretary’s empowered committee, saying the subsidy will be given after the units become operational.

“The apparel cluster park is a Rs 5,000 crore investment which will give employment opportunities to 5 lakh people. The MoU for the cluster was signed in January 2018. YEIDA had earlier identified 200-acre land in Sector 29, which was given to Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC),” Shailendra Bhatia, an officer on special duty, YEIDA, told TOI.

According to Bhatia, the NAEC had demanded individual allotments for its members, which YEIDA agreed. For this, the NAEC gave a list of 84 members. “YEIDA gave allotment to all in Sector 29 on the 200 acres designated land. Of the total 84 members, 24 allottees have already deposited their allotment money,” he said.

Lalit Thukral, president of NAEC, said all kinds of garments, textiles, raw materials like yarns will be manufactured from this cluster.

Earlier this month, Union minister for textile and women and child development, Smriti Irani, on her visit to Noida, had lauded the textile cluster as the biggest and said it would boost textile growth as well as provide largescale job opportunities.

The importance of the textile park is also seen in the light of the upcoming Jewar International Airport. “The textile park will boost economic growth in the region,” said Bhatia.
